“Families are being deceived into thinking they’re purchasing a high-end breed with the promise of an affordable monthly payment plan, not realizing they’re actually signing a two- or three-year lease that could result in their pet being repossessed,” said Corrado (R-40). “This deceptive practice of renting-to-own puppies and kittens employed by sinister pet brokers is cruel and must be stopped.”

“Anyone who has the audacity to use their taxpayer-funded position of power to assault a coworker doesn’t deserve a state pension,” Corrado (R-40) said. “Public service is about helping people and making the state you work for a better, safer place for all. Anyone who commits a crime that is contrary to that mission, whether it’s an ethics violation or a sex offense, shouldn’t be paid by the state for life. We need to confront this crisis head-on and ensure that people know there are real consequences for committing crimes in the workplace.”

“I commend the Chief Justice and the Judiciary for taking seriously the concerns that many of us have raised regarding the abhorrent treatment of sexual assault victims in our state’s courtrooms,” said Corrado (R-40). “These are good first steps that will begin the process of restoring the confidence of survivors to seek the justice they deserve through our courts.”

“Raising awareness is an important step that will help us to battle the crisis of opioid abuse that’s plaguing New Jersey and save lives,” said Corrado (R-40). “We’re ensuring that individual patients who are prescribed opioids are warned of the potential danger of addiction. On a larger scale, we’re going to highlight the vast scope of this disease to reduce the stigma of talking about it or seeking help. These efforts will work in tandem to educate patients and the general public about this growing problem.”
Corrado Legislation Will Require Training for Judges & Court Personnel to Improve Treatment of Sexual Assault Survivors
Following her call yesterday for increased training for New Jersey judges on dealing with sexual assault survivors in their courtrooms, Senator Kristin Corrado will introduce legislation that requires the Judiciary to develop and implement such a training program. Additionally, the legislation sets minimum standards to ensure the training is thorough, and requires it to be conducted annually.

“We need to ensure that judges and court personnel are better trained about what behavior is appropriate in cases involving allegations of sexual assault,” said Corrado (R-40). “Because whatever training the courts are doing now, it clearly is not working. We still have judges making despicable comments from the bench that may make survivors think twice about pursuing justice.”

“It’s outrageous that we have judges serving today in New Jersey courtrooms who think it’s appropriate to downplay the severity of sexual assault perpetrated against young girls,” said Corrado (R-40). “The focus of those judges on protecting alleged rapists from the consequences of their vile actions is contrary to all of the advances we have made in recent years to help sexual assault survivors pursue the justice they deserve.”

“Superstorm Sandy has had a devastating and lasting impact on the quality of our water pipes, sewer systems, and storm water infrastructure,” Bateman said. “In my area, for example, the funding slated for Somerville Borough and Raritan Township’s Municipal Utilities Authority will keep the water resources in our communities safe, without putting an additional burden on local property taxpayers. Providing an affordable financial strategy to upgrade critical infrastructure statewide will protect the public health of New Jerseyans and the overall environment of the Garden State.”
