“Pets are a part of the American family,” Corrado said. “I am troubled to know that people are being misled into believing they’re purchasing a high-end breed with the promise of affordable monthly payment plans, not realizing they’re actually signing a two or three-year lease that could result in their pet being repossessed. This deceptive practice of renting-to-own puppies employed by shady pet brokers is cruel and must be stopped.”

“All veterans and their families deserve to be laid to rest with dignity,” Singer said. “Knowing that there are unclaimed remains of deceased veterans, their spouses, and their dependents sitting in funeral homes or being buried without honor is heartbreaking. This legislation would ensure the remains of veterans’ loved ones can be claimed by a qualifying veteran’s organization, so they can receive the proper burial they deserve.”

“Anyone who has the audacity to use their taxpayer-funded position of power to assault a coworker doesn’t deserve a state pension,” Senator Corrado (R-40) said. “Public service is about helping people and making the state you work for a better, safer place for all. Anyone who commits a crime that is contrary to that mission, whether it’s an ethics violation or a sex offense, shouldn’t be paid by the state for life. We need to confront this crisis head-on and ensure that people know there are real consequences for committing crimes in the workplace.”

District 40 Lawmakers Fight to Change Mail-in-ballot Laws to Prevent Fraud on Election Day

In light of new reports that State law enforcement officials are investigating a number of vote-by-mail ballots cast after polls closed in Tuesday’s Cedar Grove municipal election, District 40 lawmakers Senator Kristin Corrado and Assemblymen Kevin Rooney and Christopher DePhillips today announced that they will introduce new legislation to upgrade penalties and bar anyone from filing official and completed absentee ballots after polls close on Election Day.

The legislation, which will be formally introduced in both houses shortly, would correct action taken by Governor Murphy in 2018 that drastically changed the mail-in-ballot process in New Jersey. The new District 40 bill would apply to both primary and general elections statewide.

“Anyone who has the audacity to bang on doors at 10:30 p.m. to round up extra votes has no business serving in government. That’s an egregious violation of public trust,” Senator Corrado said. “Until we take corrective action to limit the overreach of these new mail-in-ballot laws, people like Harry Kumburis will continue to exploit the system – and they won’t always be caught on tape. There is no greater threat to our local democracy than a candidate who is so consumed by power that they will do anything to win. Let’s fix this law now, before another election is put in jeopardy.”

“Our daughters should learn about Equal Pay Day in the classroom, instead of experiencing wage discrimination in the workplace,” Senator Corrado (R-40) said. “In New Jersey, I was proud to join the fight to close the gender pay gap by voting yes on the Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act last year.

“Our fight is far from over. I will continue to work to ensure a person’s gender does not play a role in the opportunities they have to succeed in the working world.”
